Opening music for concerts aimed at non-believers

Opening music for concerts aimed at non-believers

I had opportunity to be on a short-term mission trip to Okinawa in October 2008.  In preparing to go we realised that there's a gap in available Japanese music.  The only resources available were English & Japanese worship songs with a very strong message.

Singing about the forgiveness of sins and salvation only make sense once the listener knows what sin is, the significance of forgiveness, and the necessity of salvation, etc.  This material is perfect for believers, but confusing or incomprehensible by non-believers.  The only song we found that fit the description of "Ease-in" song (e.g. for opening a concert aimed primarily at non-believers) was You Were Born To Be Loved ("Kimi Wa Aisareru Tame Umareta").

After we returned from our mission trip, one of the team members began writing songs and her husband helped to arrange the music.  These songs have a "gentle" message, and can provide a topic to talk about, or even lead into a testimony.  The first song is available online at
http://www.youtube.com/user/KeyBoxMusic
Another 2-3 songs are in the works. Hopefully others doing ministry to Japanese may find this material useful.

James.

Re: Opening music for concerts aimed at non-believers

Hi James,

Thanks for posting the youtube link!   Is there somewhere where I could get the lyrics to the songs on Key Box's music site in romaji and/or with an English translation?

Thanks! smile

Re: Opening music for concerts aimed at non-believers

Hi Blue_Sunset,

The lyrics are on the youtube pages, in the text box immediately below the video. Click on the "(more info)" link to view. At first I thought the box was blank, but when I scrolled my mouse over the area, the words appeared. Looks like the user chose the same colour text as background...

Here is a cut & paste of the "Konna Boku Demo" lyrics, in Japanese, Romaji, and English:

*****LYRICS IN ENGLISH*****
Sand falls sparkling through my fingers
I cant hold on to it, just like my future
The silent leaves are layered wet on the ground
Like my tears, they fall unnoticed

(CH)
Even someone like me
Can realize what great things there are in life
Thank you God

Even someone like me
All this time has been loved by God

The snow blows in the wind, dances for a moment and then is scattered
Its like my existence, my life disappearing
My life is the same scenery again and again
Ill draw tomorrow with the same colour as every day

(CH)

In the coldest of nights, I clasp my hands together
But love like this can get me through
